We are proud to welcome Specto Technology as an official IMSURGE Service Partner, formalizing a relationship that has been developing for several years.
What began with a simple idea for making instrumentation data more portable has since grown into a collaboration to support dozens of organizations, a growing ecosystem of monitoring technologies, and years of real world project experience.
An early adopter with a real problem to solve
Our first conversations began in 2021, when we approached Specto’s technical team with an early proof of concept for IMSURGE and a vision for making it easier to move instrumentation data between otherwise disconnected systems.
They quickly identified a practical real world application: getting environmental monitoring data from Aeroqual’s API and presenting it in Eagle.io.
With no existing solution available to connect the two platforms, we applied the IMSURGE concepts to the problem and developed a working solution.
When the first IMSURGE prototype went live in May 2022, that pipeline became one of its earliest real world use cases.
The experience gave us something incredibly valuable during the platform’s formative years. Feedback from real customers using it to solve real monitoring problems. That feedback helped identify where the concept worked, where it needed improvement, and what would be required to make it scale across a much broader range of customers and projects.
From a pilot to a managed service
Today, IMSURGE is a core component of the managed data services Specto provides to its customers.
When a project depends on data flowing across several technologies, IMSURGE provides the infrastructure that keeps it moving. The account, workflows, and associated technical details can be managed by the Specto team as part of the complete monitoring solution they can offer to their customers.
It’s a model that aligns closely with what we set out to accomplish with IMSURGE. The technologies used on a monitoring project should be chosen because they’re right for the job, not because they’re locked into the same ecosystem. By combining Specto’s experience designing and supporting monitoring systems with IMSURGE’s ability to connect the technologies behind them, customers can get a complete solution without having to own the integration challenge themselves.
Specto currently uses IMSURGE to support dozens of different customer organizations.
Some of those workflows have been continuously processing project data for years. Others have come and gone as individual monitoring projects have started and concluded.
Growing alongside real world usage
Managing a handful of pipelines is very different from managing hundreds of workflows across dozens of customers and projects.
As usage increased, it exposed new requirements for operating IMSURGE efficiently at that scale. Feedback from the team contributed to improvements throughout the platform, including its user interface, usage tracking and reporting, documentation, and countless quality of life improvements.
The integration library surrounding those projects expanded considerably as well.
Aeroqual and eagle.io were among the first platforms to demonstrate the broader interoperability IMSURGE was designed to provide. When the newest generation of IMSURGE launched in November 2024, the platform supported four integrations. Today, we support a total of 36, including integrations that tie directly into Specto’s DataLake solution.
As the library has grown, so has the range of technologies available to Specto when building solutions around the requirements of each project.
What started as a simple way of getting Aeroqual data into eagle.io can now support a much broader range of technologies and project requirements.
Quietly working behind the scenes
If you’ve been a Specto customer over the past four years and trusted them to handle data processing for you, there’s a good chance you’ve already relied on IMSURGE as part of your day to day monitoring workflows.
And in many ways, that is exactly how we believe IMSURGE should work.
The technology should not get in the way of the monitoring solution. It should quietly connect the systems a project depends on, keep the data moving reliably, and allow the people responsible for the project to focus on what actually matters.
Specto has been putting that idea into practice for years, combining their monitoring expertise with IMSURGE to build and manage solutions around the needs of their customers. Our new Service Partner designation gives that relationship a name and formally recognizes the experience they have developed deploying IMSURGE across customer projects.
We’re proud of what we’ve built together, and even more excited about where it can go next.
Ask your Specto representative how IMSURGE fits into your existing workflows, or how it can become part of a complete monitoring solution for your next project.
